Overview
Leptastrea is a genus of encrusting and mounding stony corals with small, closely set corallites. It is a tough, adaptable coral that adds rich colour and fine texture to rockwork.
Appearance and colour
Colonies often combine a base colour with brightly contrasting polyp centres, in shades of green, red, purple and yellow. Many pieces fluoresce strongly under blue lighting. Polyps extend short tentacles, particularly at night.
Care in the aquarium
Leptastrea tolerates a broad range of conditions. Moderate to high light and moderate flow suit it best. It grows by encrusting outward, so place it where it has space to spread. Supplementary feeding is optional, and it can extend short sweepers at night, so keep it a little apart from delicate corals.
