Overview
Favites pentagona is a massive, encrusting to mounding stony coral with corallites that share walls and form angular, often five-sided shapes. That geometric pattern gives it a bold, structured look that stands out in any LPS display.
Appearance and colour
Corallites are small to medium and tightly packed. The species is known for vivid colouration, including reds, greens and oranges, often with contrasting walls and centres that fluoresce under blue light.
Care in the aquarium
War corals adapt well to a range of systems. Moderate light and flow suit them best, placed on the rockwork where they have room. They earn their common name at night, when they extend long sweeper tentacles that can damage nearby corals, so give them clear space. Occasional target feeding with small meaty foods supports growth.
