Overview
Alveopora is a genus of stony corals known for long, fleshy polyp stalks topped with a crown of 12 short tentacles. Extended, a colony looks like a field of small daisies moving in the current, which is where the common name comes from.
It is often confused with Goniopora; the easiest way to tell them apart is the tentacle count, with Alveopora carrying 12 per polyp and Goniopora carrying 24.
Appearance and colour
Colours include creams, browns, greens and soft pinks, often with contrasting tentacle tips. Polyp extension is the main attraction, so stable conditions matter more for this coral than for most.
Care in the aquarium
Alveopora suits an established, stable system with moderate lighting and gentle, alternating flow. It benefits from fine particulate foods and a nutrient level that is not stripped too low. Place it where its polyps can extend fully without touching neighbours, and acclimate it gradually to new lighting.
