Overview
Euphyllia glabrescens, the torch coral, is a branching large polyp stony coral whose long, flowing tentacles move constantly in the current. Each branch ends in a single large polyp, and a mature colony becomes a dense head of swaying tentacles.
Appearance and colour
Tentacles are long and smooth, ending in rounded tips that are often a contrasting colour. Popular colourations include green, gold and purple bodies with bright yellow, green or pink tips.
Care in the aquarium
Torch corals prefer moderate lighting and moderate, alternating flow that moves the tentacles without folding them over. They accept small meaty foods, which helps with growth and colour. Their sweeper tentacles can extend well beyond the day-time polyp and sting other corals, so allow plenty of space around the colony.
